福々しいという表現がふさわしい水注。酒などを注ぐために用いたものです。

前時代の高麗時代にも水注はありますが、同じ民族が作ったとは思えないほど李朝の水注は大らかではないでしょうか。蔓を巻きつけたような持ち手と小枝のような蓋のつまみが愛らしい作品です。

日本民芸館には、持ち手が竹節状になった類品の水注が収蔵されています。

その水注について柳宗悦は「ここでは無紋こそ紋以上の紋である。無地である事が如何にこの満ち満ちた形に適している事か。」と評しました。

This ewer is worthy of the expression "well-rounded". It was used for pouring alcohol and other beverages. Although the Koryo Dynasty, which preceded the Joseon Dynasty, also had a ewer, it is hard to believe that the same people made the Joseon Dynasty's ewer. 

The handle, which looks like a vine wrapped around it, and the lid knob, which looks like a twig, make this a lovely piece.

The Japan Folk Crafts Museum has a similar ewer with a bamboo-shaped handle.

Yanagi Muneyoshi commented on the ewer, "Here, the absence of a pattern is more of a pattern. How well the plainness is suited to the fullness of the form. "
