このたび大塚美術では、花人・杉謙太郎の花会および展覧会〈花陰〉を開催する運びとなりました。
古典花道を根幹としながらも、花による現代の表現を様々な方法で追求している杉による、大塚美術では初めての発表です。
会期前半は古美術・現代美術を取り合わせた室礼での花会、後半は作家が近年制作している花器を中心とした展覧会となります。皆様のご来場を心よりお待ちしております。

杉謙太郎 SUGI Kentaro
1975 年福岡県⽣まれ。
薔薇農家に⽣まれ、10 代で華道家元池坊の花を学ぶ。その後ヨーロッパを巡り、帰国後は原⽥耕三⽒に師事。古典花道研究者・岡⽥幸三から弟⼦の原⽥耕三へと受け継がれた「いけばな」を根幹に独⾃の表現を追求。 2013 年から国内外で花会を重ね、様々な視点から花による現代の表現を発表している。

We are pleased to announce that Otsuka Fine Art will present “Hanakage,” a Hanakai (Flower Ceremony) and exhibition by contemporary IKEBANA artist SUGI Kentaro.
Rooted in the traditions of classical ikebana while exploring contemporary expressions through flowers, this marks Sugi’s first presentation at Otsuka Fine Art.
The first half of the program will feature Hanakai, in which Japanese antiques and contemporary art are brought together in carefully composed settings. The second half will present an exhibition centered on the flower vessels Sugi has created in recent years.

SUGI Kentaro
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1975.
Born into a family of rose growers in Fukuoka, Sugi began studying the Ikenobō school of ikebana in his teens. He later traveled extensively throughout Europe before returning to Japan to study under Harada Kōzō. Building upon a lineage of ikebana passed from the classical ikebana scholar Okada Kōzō to Harada, Sugi has developed a distinctive artistic practice rooted in classical ikebana.
Since 2013, he has presented numerous Hanakai throughout Japan and internationally. While firmly grounded in the traditions of classical ikebana, his work explores contemporary expressions through flowers from a wide range of perspectives.
